Short answer: chapters and regions are not the same count
The current verified archive is organized into five major regions: Kanto, Mountainous, Drowned, Wasteland, and Capital. That does not mean the game has only five chapters. Individual regions can contain more than one story chapter; Ancient Civilization, for example, is presented as Chapter 2 while remaining inside the Kanto region.
Because no complete in-game chapter-select capture is stored in this archive yet, this page does not convert the five regional navigation groups into an unsupported official chapter total. The full numbered chapter list will be published only when every title and transition has been verified from the game.
Verified campaign region order
The stable regional order used throughout this site is Kanto Region, Mountainous Region, Drowned Region, Wasteland Region, and Capital Zone. These names are useful for maps, equipment locations, enemies, and completion tracking because every point of interest can be assigned to one regional dataset.
Kanto itself demonstrates why a chapter answer needs care. The opening Ogouchi Buffer Zone and the later Ancient Civilization Zone share the Kanto regional guide, yet the Ancient Civilization route is explicitly treated as Chapter 2. Counting map tabs would therefore undercount story chapters.
Spoiler-free completion advice
Before leaving a major region, activate every named camp, clear optional locked branches, collect equipment and crafting books, and finish unresolved elite encounters. A story transition can move Emma forward before the local map looks empty, so treat the regional completion checklist—not a guessed chapter number—as the safer point-of-no-return check.
Players interested only in the main story can follow mandatory objectives and return to optional cleanup when the route permits. Completion players should use the map and the region guide together: the guide supplies route order, while the map retains exact points of interest.
How this page is verified
A chapter is added only when its numbered label and title are visible in gameplay, a chapter transition, or another direct game record. Region names come from the public map structure. Review estimates and player-reported completion times can describe pacing, but they are not evidence for an exact chapter total.
This verification rule intentionally produces a narrower answer while the release archive is still being completed. It prevents search-friendly but incorrect lists from becoming dependencies for every later boss and location page.
